Our charitable activities are subsidised or funded by the activities of the Milkmaid Folk Club activities, listed below.
Milkmaid at the Apex
This is a partnership we have with St Edmundsbury Borough Council in promoting folk music at the town’s music venue and concert hall within a profit share scheme. The CEO and the Corporate Director of St Edmundsbury Council and the Milkmaid work together, the Apex providing the facilities, the Milkmaid providing the acts. The profits are shared and the Apex underwrite any losses. Since December 2010 the Milkmaid has received £6,000 so far from the arrangement which has supported a number of the charitable activities.
Milkmaid Folk Club
Is a monthly concert folk club for the whole community held in Bury St Edmunds Top internationally and nationally known folk artists are booked and the audience pay an entrance fee to see them. This has been a successful commercial and culture venture for 19 years and is the seed from which all the other activities have grown.
Is a monthly event that features local and regional performers. Invited artists play for 2 sets of 45 minutes (with full sound and lighting rig provided). We have a database of 160+ acts and we are adding to this all the time.
